NEHE MILNER-SKUDDER X SKULLCANDY

Truly blessed to have the opportunity from Skullcandy to have my design on these awesome headphones.

I got in touch with Te Haunui Tuna, a Tatoo artist passionate about his Maori heritage and someone who has done some amazing mahi so I was keen for him to help me out.

I wanted the design to represent the way I like to play. I like to play the game at a fast pace, using footwork and agility. I was a big fan of the character Flash when I was younger so we tried to base it off him, having the lightning bolt in a similar angle like the one on his head.

The main and most important part though are the traditional meanings behind the design. The two opposing koru in the middle are called a mangopare ,when they're placed like that. This represents strength and resilience, all traits I’ve had to draw on and show throughout life and especially during these past couple years with injuries and rehab.

The 3 stripes in the middle can represent a few things, with 3 being quite a significant number in maoridom hence a lot of taaniko (triangle patterns) throughout marae and on korowai etc. In this instance they represent the three kete of knowledge. The gap between the whole design going from bottom left to top right represents my path through life. The rest of the design at the bottom and left part represent my friends and whanau who've helped make me who I am.

A massive mihi to the bro Te Haunui who put the design together. It took a lot of time and a few different designs but we were stoked with what we came up with. "
